The Saint-Ouen Flea Market · A Survival Guide
The largest antiques market in the world is a five-minute walk from 11BAUER. The right stalls, the right hours, the right moves.

When to come
The flea market is open Saturday, Sunday and Monday, closed the rest of the week. Saturday morning is prime time: the serious hunters arrive from 9am, before the crowd. Mondays are quieter and easier to negotiate, ideal if you want to take your time.
Avoid rainy late-month weekends, as many outdoor stalls close when it pours.
Markets to know
"Les Puces" actually covers several distinct markets, each with its own atmosphere.
- Marché Vernaison · the oldest, the densest. Bric-à-brac, militaria, vintage lamps, vinyl.
- Marché Paul Bert Serpette · high-end. 20th-century design, signed furniture. This is where real finds happen.
- Marché Dauphine · covered, perfect for rainy days. Vintage fashion, jewellery, books.
- Marché Biron · luxury and silverware, higher price tags.
- Marché Malassis · eclectic and more accessible.
The art of haggling
In Saint-Ouen, you negotiate. It's expected, it's part of the game. A few unwritten rules:
- Be direct without being rude. A simple "could you do better on the price?" is enough.
- Average discount lands around 15 to 20 %. Beyond that, the dealer locks up.
- Cash is still king. Most stalls now take cards, but cash often unlocks a smile, and a better price.
- If you walk away empty-handed, don't apologise. Take a loop, come back. The best deals come on the second pass.
Where to eat on site
- Ma Cocotte · Philippe Starck-designed bistro at the heart of Paul Bert. Reservations required.
- Le Paul Bert · market cuisine, short blackboard menu, more authentic.
- La Chope des Puces · small room, live gypsy jazz on weekends. An institution.
The 11BAUER team will gladly book a table for you.
Our advice
Walk over from the hotel (five minutes), and you cross the invisible line between everyday Saint-Ouen and the great market. It's the best way to understand the neighborhood: a place that lives, hunts, haggles, and hasn't really stopped doing so since 1885.
